Tliis Day. The Postmaster at Otaki has been suspended in consequence of Iris having stamped a letter enclosing an entry for the Wellington races as being posted on the 19th instant, when really it was posted on the 20th. It is believed that the letter was so stamped to suit the convenience of the person entering the horse. At the Supreme Court yesterday, an argument on demurrer v'ns heard in the case of W. L. Reea v. Macfarlaue, in an action for conspiracy and malicious prosecution. Judgment was reserved. In the action of Barrett against the proprietors of Punch, claiming £54 fur printing, judgment was given for £6 10a. The crew of H.M.S. Cormorant, gave an entertainment on Monday night for the benefit of the widow of Francis Donald, who was accidently shot at the Kaiwarra Rifle Range last Saturday week. A meeting of Protestants was held last evening, at which a committee was appointed to arrange f the reception of Pastor Chiniquy. Lipman Levy, the well-known boot importer, and for many years director of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company, died yesterday from inflammation of the bowels. (from a correspondent.] In the Supreme Court, the appeal, King v. Riperata Kahutia, in which Mr. Cuff acted for Kiperata, and Mr. Ward for King, the appeal was dismissed with costs. To-day, the actions Read's Trustees v. W. L. Rees comes on. It is expected that the case will collapse before it reaches the jury.
