NAPIER. This Day. In the Supreme Coiirt yesterday, m the assault case against five Maoris upon James Richardson, one of them, Renata Kereama, pleaded guilty, and afterwards gave evidence against the others, principally charging Hapi with beating Richardson, and knocking him off his horse, and admitting that he (Renata) had also beaten Richardson. The Jury found Hapi guilty, and acquitted the other three. George Henry pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering, and William Bartlett pleaded guilty to shooting with intent. The afternoon was occupied with the trial of William Duckett for larceny. He was employed m February last m removing goods from the burning premises of Mr. Flint, storekeeper at Clyde, Wairoa ; and m July laßt he was found disposing of coats, waistcoats and trousers, identified as the property of Mr. Flint. The Jury found him guilty, and he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The Judge said the case ought not to have been sent to the Supreme Court. 3 p.m. At the Supreme Court to-day, Hapi and Renata Kereama, for assaulting James Richardson, of Povery Bay, were sentenced to six months imprisonment. George Henry Stuart, for forgery and uttering at Wairoa, was sentenced to twelve months. David Nelson, horse stealing, six months. . The charge of robbery against the five Maoris at Poverty Bay, was not proceeded with. The Judge thinking that the ends of justice would be sufficiently served with the conviction of Hapi and Renata. < The case of Meta, for attempting to carnally know a girl under age, is now proceeding.

WELLINGTON. This Day. The steamer Penguin put back yesterday an hour after starting, having burst a boiler tube. She left again this morning.
