The Magnificent Thoroughbred Stallion "MARORO." Will STAND during the present SEASON at Mr. J. S. Cooper's Stables, Waerenga-a-hika. OWNERS of really good Maree should not lose sight of the opportunity afforded of the service of such an animal as MARORO, as he is closely related to the very best blood now running m England. MARORO is a beautiful, liver-colored Chesnut, standing 16 hands ; and showing a quality of Bone and Substance equal, if not superior, to anything yel bred m New Zealand. In 1876, Marorc was selected by his breeder (Mr H. Redwood, of Spring Creek, Blenheim] to represent his colors for the Dunedin Cup of that year, and, notwithstanding that two Victorian horses and all the New Zealand cracks were amongst the entries, was at once installed first favorite ; and, but for a very severe passage, owing to bad weather prevailing, no doubt could be entertained but that he would have won the great event. In 1877, as four-year-old, MARORO was exhibited m Blenheim and received the FIRST PRIZE as the BEST THOROUGHBRED STALLION ON THE GROUND. A glance at MARORO'S Pedigree ia sufficient to show that a more purely bred animal has never yet had his services tendered m Poverty Bay. PEDIGREE— By Towton, dam Fair Agnes j Towton by Melbourne — Pinezella by Touchstone. (Towton's full sister Marchioness and half-brother Marquis distinguished themselves on the English Turf, as the former won the Oaks, and the latter ran a desperate second for the Derby and won the St. Leger). Fair Agnes by St. Aubyn— Phcebe by Sir Hercules — Woodstock by Theorem. By this it will be seen that the happy "Nick of Blood," which has m Australia been ever so successful, namely — that of the Sir Hercules and the Touchstone is combined m MARORO — a fact not to be lost sight of by intelligent breeders. Fair Agnes, the dam of Maroro, has left her mark on the New Zealand Turf, as her foals are — 1872, Nellie by Towton ; 1873, Maroro by Towton ; 1874, Choke-bore by Dead Shot. Further particulars see New Zealand Stud Book. Terms — Five Guineas each mare, including one month's grass ; afterwards 5s per week. Mares left at Mr S. M. WILSON'S Argyll Stables, Gisborne, will be forwarded free to Waerenga-a-hika. All fees to be paid before removal of mares. Every care taken, but no responsibility. J. S. COOPER, Waerenga-a-hika.
