WELLINGTON. This Day. Robert Port, merchant, has assigned his estate. Liabilities £45,000 assets £60,000. The Property Assessment Bill comes on for debate this evening ; but it is expected that it will either be postponed until next session or greatly modified, exempting all descriptions o£ personal property and confining it to real and invested estate only. AUCKLAND. This Day. The Ovalan, schooner, from Fiji, brings tidings of the dismissal of the charge of manslaughter against the Rev. George Brown through, the AttorneyGeneral withdrawing from the prosecution. GRAHAMSTOWN. This Day. A meeting of persons desirous of settling on land m the Upper Thames was held last night. It was resolved to form an Association which would m all likehood be eventually affiliated with the Wellington Farm Association. Mr. McCullough, agent of the latter Association, was present, and explained the intended course of operations. The Liberal Association passed a resolution condemnatory of the Property Assessment Bill, and a copy of the resolution to be forwarded to the Thames representatives. A proposal to dismember the Thames County is being discussed at a meeting of the Council to-day. It is proposed to add three ridings to the Municipality, and form highway districts of the remainder.
