The House met yesterday at 2.30 p.m. Replying to Mr. Pyke it was stated by Mr. Pryce that £621 had been paid to Dr. Buller during the present year for the defence of Maori prisoners. On the motion of Sir George Grey, leave was given to introduce a Bill to amend the New Zealand Constitution Act. On the motion of the Premier it was resolved that for the remainder of the session the House sit on Monday's at 7*30, for Government business only, and that Thursdays also be devoted to Government business. On the motion of Mr. Macandrew, the Standing Orders Committee were directed to report as to the expediency of adopting a new Standing Order, whereby without motion, the House will rise at 12.30. unless sooner adjourned. Mr. Macandrew moved that the salaries of all Civil Servants over £200 be reduced 5 per cent, and Ministers salaries and members honorarium 10 per cent. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournmnnt. At the evening sitting Mr. Reeves moved that the recommendation of the Petitions Committee for making provision for the Nelson South-west goldfields be apopted. The Premier opposed the motion, but after considerable discussion, it was adopted on division by 31 to 26. The rest of the business was unimportant.
