COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.
At a meeting of the above, held this day at noon, for the purpose of electing the County Chairman, there were present Councillors Johnson (chairman), Porter, Graham, McKay, and, Tutchen. Councillor Johnson said as the term of his office had expired, he had determined on retiring without seeking for re-election. He thanked the Councillors most sincerly for the courtesy they had shewn> and the assistance they had given him, in the discharge of his duties, and hoped they would extend their support to his successsor. Councillor McKay, while regretting | that Councillor Johnson did not desire i re-election, begged to propose that Councillor Andrew Graham \>e elected to fill the office. This was seconded by Councillor Porter in a complimentary speech addressed to Councillor Johnson, and the Chairman elect, and was carried nem dis. A resolution was proposed by Councillor Porter, and seconded by Councillor McKay, to enquire into certain irregularities alleged to exist in connectian with Mr. J. Tntchen's election, report to be brought up at next meeting. Considerable discussion ensued, and as serious reflection was cast on the Council and its officers, such as having falsifie "rolls for the purpose of invalidating Mr. Tutchen's return, &c, it was agreed that suoh matters be cleared up by a report, of the Committee, and the resolution was carried. Councillors Graham and Johnson were appointed to meet two of the mem* bers of the Borough Council to renew their application to the Government with the view of obtaining assistance for the construction of a tram between Gisborne and Ormond.
