RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before C. Whitefoord Esq., R.M.) This Day. Wife Beating. — W. H. Quinlan was bound over to keep the peace towards his wife in the sum of £25 for 6 months. Police v. Feary. — Breach of Licensing Ordinance, for not keeping a light from sunset to sunrise. Mr. Ward for defendant. His Worship dismissed the case with a caution. Same v. Same. — Breach of the Licensing Ordinance for permitting gambling by dice in his licensed Hotol. Mr. Ward submitted that there was no case. Constable Stagpole gave evidence that dice were in use, and Sergeant Kidd, intending to support his testimony, called the evidence of two witnesses, who swore that there were no dice, and no gambling. Mr. Ward oalled no witnesses, and after a short statement under these circumstances, His Worship dismissed the case, but cautioned all publicans against permitting dice throwitig in their houses.
