WELLINGTON. * This Day. The preliminary enquiry into circumstances of the mishap to the steamer Tui, on Sunday morning, was held yesterday before the Collector of Customs. The Captain attributed the accident to a want of sufficient steam at the time, and to the delay in setting the foresail. H<* thought some of the seamen were not quite sober, and he found that the board of the bulkhead had been removed, and four bottles of brandy were missing from a case. The cable steamer Agnes leaves for ! Sydney to-day. She will take soundings along the line of cable between this Colony and Sydney. AUCKLAND. This Dav. The Carandini Company arrived by the Rotomahana. They will appear here in a series of instrumental and vocal concerts. News from Norfolk Islands states that the whaling Beason haß been good, whales being plentiful. NEW PLYMOUTH. | This Day. The sohooner Nelson went ashore yesterday on the North Spit at Waitara, when trying to enter the river. GRAHAMSTOWN. This Day. Albumias gone down to 705., but prospects still excellent. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. The chemists have resolved to raise the price of patent medicines. It has been raining heavily again both yesterday and to-day.
