PARLIAMENTARY.

[By Telegraph.]

[from our own correspondent.]

Wellington, This Day. The Legislative Council sab for two hours and a quarter, but the business was unimportant. The chief part of the time was occupied m a discussion on the state of the Lunatic Asylums, , and the bad condition of which was attributed to the late Government. Colonel Whitmore denied it, and laid the fault to the Provincial governments. Sir F. D. Bell said that one cause; of the late Government's fall was there neglecting that question. Debate was adjourned. The House of Representatives met at 2. 30. Replying to Mr Hislop, the Premier said the Government intended basing the adjustment of Auckland claims on principal of ■ fairness to all parts of the Colony. The amount was hot yet'ma&e up. Being private members' day, the sitting both afternoon and evening, was devoted to measures of no public interest. It is stated that the financial proposals of the Government will be submitted to a caucus of their supporters before being introduced. It is considered probable that an increase of Stamp Duties will be proposed.
