The Haka Troupe in Sydney.
The Haka Troupe, which left Gisborne a short time back for the Exhibiton, have appeared at the Queen's Theatre, Sydney, to crowded houses, where they have fixed the admiration of thousands. The "show" has proved a most undoubted success. The Sydney Evening News has the following : — The afterpiece, if so we may call it, consisted of Hakas or dances by the New Zealand natives. • Captain Ferris introduced the troupe, consisting of 25 persons, as the finest specimens of Maories,— there being no less than five chiefs amongst them and some of the ladies occupied the same position m New Zealand as a daughter of the Queen would j m England. To give a description of the entertainment would be impossible, as the whole consists of emotional gestures, typical of the " noble sons of the forest," which one must see with his own eyes to understand its meaning. Every student of ethnology ought to pay a visit to the Qaeen's, as the performance is not only amusing, but also very instructive from an ethnological point. The Sydney ..Morning Herald also eulogises the exhibition as being both highly instructive, interesting, and exceedingly entertaining.
