Information has been received that the Governor will visit Christchurch during the race week. A young man, the son of a wellknown resident m town, was arrested yesterday on a charge of attempting to set fire to the drying store of Mr Hall m St. Asaph-street. A barrel of" far had been taken from the yard, where it was lying with six others, and brought round to the front of the building and then fired. Fortunately it was discovered by a man passing, who extinguished the fire before it done other damage than scorch the boards. As the store is amongst a lot of wooden buildings, had the fire got a firm hold and it would have proved very destructive. The young man was remanded till Monday.
