From a return recently published it appears that there is , a total European population m the Colony, over 21 years of agej gf v 116,008 persons, v ofewhom 82,271 are on the electoral roll printed for the year 1879., There are' 14,553 Maoris over 21 year* of age,' 6686 of whom are on the electoral roll, but only 2842 recorded their votes for the four Maori districts during the recent election.
