Tins Day. The Government have replied to the petitioners respecting the Minister of Marine case that the law does not Justify demanding an explanation from the Grand Jury as to their action taken. The Government have, however, sent for the depositions taken m the R.M. Court. Mr. Heig-hton's blacksmith shop was burnt down on Saturday evening. This Day. Trout fishing is being pursued with great zest.. At Fendaltown on Saturday one angler killed 29 fish m five minutes, but they were mostly small, the largest being one and half pounds. In the Avon the fishing has been tame, owing to the contractor being engaged m clearing the stream of weeds. A three-mile trotting race came off on Saturday, on the Riccarton Road, between Morlin's and Porter's mares.
