BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
[To (he Editor of the Heratd.] Sir,-— I notice that Mr H. E. Webb has rushed into print, and m a very insolent tone commented m your correspondence columns of yesterday evening's Herald upon my remarks under the above heading. Confessing his utter ignorance of the subject complained of, he . yet has the effrontory to dictate to others who are conversant with the matter referred to, and know only too well that there has been great cause for complaint. Mr EL. E. Webb refers to the Society as a Society of ladies. Then none but a gentleman should take up the cudgels on their behalf. I hope, therefore, for the credit of the Society, that Mr H. E. Webb has presumed to occupy the position of their champion without* their sanction. Yours, &c, • Mercy. Ootober 21st, i 879. [This must end the discussion, unless the other side has an answer to make. —Ed.]
