This Day. A coroner's inquest was held yesterday afternoon before Dr. Giles, coroner, on the body of John Montagu Symons, ten years old. A large number of witnesses were examined. After a retirement of two hours the jury returned a a verdict " That the death of John Montagu Symons was caused by internal disease, accelerated Dy cruelty, exposure, and neglect to a great extent by his father, Frederick Symons." This amounted to a verdict of manslaughter. The following rider was added : " The jury desires to bring under the notice of the Minister of Justice that neglected and ill-treated children by parents and guardians be more strictly supervised by the police." Frederick Symons was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court, and removed into custody.
