The Poverty Bay Herald AND East Coast News Letter. PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. Saturday, October 18, 1879.
Public feeling has at last been aroused to such a pitch of indignation at the mischief which has been done to Gisborne and Poverty Bay by the acts of , the Repudiation party, that a meeting has been convened at the instance of the chief business firms and the principal residents of Gisborne, to be held in the Masonic Hall, on Wednesday evening next, at 8 o'clock, to " decide what steps shall be taken towards those_apd-^tifie press organ, •which j*>fjresent the Repudiation their policy." It is felt that the present disturbed state of the Bay, and the acts of aggression on the part of the. Natives, have been caused by articles published in the newspaper press,: and that it is incumbent on the part of all who have the interests of Poverty Bay at heart to withdraw their support from all who have lent their assistance to the Repudiationists. The meeting called has been very numerously signed * and .we have no doubt there will be a very large attendance.
