[from our own correspondent.] NAPIER. This Day. The Synod of the Diocese of Waiapu was opened yesterday. There was a large attendance of the clergy and laity. Bishop Stuart delivered the opening address. Notices of motion were given for to-day, and the Synod adjourned. Last evening there was a meeting m St. Johns School-room, at which several interesting papers were read by reverend gentlemen. WELLINGTON. This Day. The cable repairing steamer arrived from Sydney yesterday. After taking about five mileß length of cable, she will proceed to repair the Cook Strait Gable. A deputation from the Working Men's Club waited on Mr. Rolleston yesterday, urging the formation of Small Farm Associations, and suggesting that if a block ef land was set aside at Hawera for that purpose, it would tend to settle the Native difficulty. Mr. Rolleston said that the Government were framing a Bill dealing with small farm settlements ; but under the present circumstances he could not pledge the Government. AUCKLAND. Thiß Day. The Waste Lands Board passed a resolution recommending the Government that such provisions be inserted m the Land Act as would promot eimmigration of farmers. CHRISTCHUROH. This Day. A man named Marshall was sentenced to six weeks' hard labor for terrorising over a girl m the Park, and pretending to be a constable. He made improper overtures to her. DUNEDIN. This Day. The Star last night stated on good authority that a^cablegram of the AgentGeneral respecting the loan was to the effect that there were indications that it would not be fully floated.
