POST-OFFICE REGULATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS.
-The Post Office is not, by law, responsible for any loss or inconvenience which may arise from the non-delivery, mis-. Bending, or. mis-delivery of any letter, book, or other postal packet (even if the packet be registered) ; nor is the Post Office responsible for any injury which a packet may sustain during its transmission! To guard against such injury, all. Eostal packets which are likely to suffer rom stamping or from great pressure should be placed m strong covers ; and even with Tihis* precaution no fragile" article should, be sent through the Post. :No information can be given respecting letters rwhiqh^.pass through a _ Post Office excejSt t6 the persons to whota they are addressed ; and^in no Other. >way is bfficiil a Jhforniation of a private^ character allowed to bo made public. Postmasters are not allowed to return . any letter or other packet to the writer, * or sender, or tetany one else, or to delay' forwarding it to its destination according to the address, even though a request to such effect be written thereon. ;- : , n Postmasters are hot bound to weigh, any letters or?,: other packets for the' public, but $$gfaag do so if their duty be not thereby- impeded. V Postmasters are v 'not bound to give change, or authorised to demand change.:' Whenever bank notes are sent by post,: even m registered letters, they should be cut m halves, and the second halves should not be posted till it had been ascertained iflTat the first halves have : been received! and further, m order to afford the means of identification, a memorandum should always be made of the number of each bank note. Any person oonveying (otherwise thaii by the Post) a letter not exempted from the exclusive privilege of the Postmaster General, incurs, by law, a penalty of £20 for every letter so conveyed. v -."
