As diptheria has most unfortunately, among other ills, shown itself m Gisborne, we publish something for the benefit of dwellers m the outside districts who may not be able to secure the services of a medical practitioner. It is hardly necessary for us to say that when such a fatal complaint as diptheria exhibits itself, that the services of a professional man should at once be secured, but as this is not always possible, the remedy we publish is so simple that we imagine there can be no harm at least m resorting to it ; but we should like to be informed by Dr. Pollen or Dr. Jackson whether employment of the remedy is likely to be attended with danger. An eminent London physician, referring to diptheria says, all he takes with him is some powdered sulphur and a quill, and with these without an exception he has effected a complete cure. He puts a spoonful of flour of brimstone into a wineglassful of water, and stirs it with his finger instead of a spoon, as the Bulphur does not readily amalgamate with water. When the sulphur is well mixed, he gives it as a gargle, and m ten minutes the patient is out of danger. Brimstone kills every species of fungi m man, beast, or plant m a few minutes. Instead of spitting out the gargle, he recommends the swallowing of it. In extreme cases, m which he had been called just m the nick of time, when the fungus was too nearly closed to allow the gargle, he blew the sulphur through a quill into the throat, and after the fungus had shrunk to allow of it, then the gargle. Ho never lost a patient from diptheria.
