House of Representatives.
The House met at 2.30. After a number of questions had been answered, several new bills were introduced, including one from Mr. Saunders to regulate the issue of licenses for the sale of intoxication drinks to be called " The Local Option Act." The debate on the no confidence amendment of Mr. Hall was resumed by Mr. Speight on the Government side. In the course of his remarks he said, speaking of influencing the press with Government advertisements, that such advertisement should not be paid and then the public would appreciate and would patronise those papers that inserted the notifications without charge. Colonel Trimble followed in a speech of two hours, attacking the Government., for their conduct of Native affairs ; particularly on the West Coast. Mr. Moss spoke next in defence of the Government. Mr. Dick, of Dunedin, followed on the Opposition side, and Mr. Ireland finished the night's debate in favor of the Government. The debate was adjourned till to-day on the motion of Mr. Fisher. The House rose at 11.50.
