The Californian correspondent to the Telegraph says :—•' Australians will remember Michael O'Fsfcrell, who attempted to murder the Duke of Edinburgh, near Sydney, 1868, and who was subsequently hanged for the offence. A brother of his, going under the name of Oorbett, was re. cently arrested in New Orleans for an attempted massacre of Roman Catholic Bnests8 nests in that 6_ty. Corbet., otherwise 'Farrell, had been educated for a priest, but falling from grace, had not been or. dained. He then joined one vagabond crowd and another, until at last he drifted inro the Fenian brotherhood, became crazy on the subject of Irish independence, and during a fit of lunacy planned the massacre as above stated. The whole affair came out when he was arrested, althouglTlhe claims ( the whole business as a joke, fie has a sister who is superioress of a New Orleans oonveht." V -
