Thb American correspondent of the Otago WittUas, among other matters, says the latest craze of all is a spiritual wedding m Leavehworth, Kansas. He says, it would be impossible to summarise the points of this extraordinary story, bat annexes copy of telegram published m American papers. It shows to what length persons who are influenced by the "spiritism" delusion will go. The following are the details : — Leavenworth, June 26th. — There is considerable excitement m this city over a report published m the Times of Wednesday morning of the wedding, m the spirit world, of a daughter of Colonel J. E. Eaton, to a son of ex-President Pierce. The ceremony is reported to have been performed m a spiritual power, and by one who now resides m the spirit land. The bride died about j 30 years ago, an infant, and the groom was killed when a small boy. The ceremony on the 20th was celebrated at j Colonel Easton's home m Leavenworth. Only a few chosen friends were present. A splendid wedding breakfast "was prepared, and dishes.arranged for the bridal pair, who are reported to have appeared m a materialised form to those present, j The bride -was elegantly attired, and, the groom was dressed m the conven- j tional style of the present time. The j above is m substance what was learned , by reporters and afterwards substahtantiated by a complete report over Colonel Eaton's signature which is published this morning. Professor 'Mott, the materialising medium^^yn the cabinet during the ceremo^^^^Hj interview with Colonel: H. On the evening above named there assembled at the residence of Colonel Easton a select company, consisting of the distinguished mediums above named, the immediate members of the family, Colonel H. D. Mackay, late president of the Alliance Life Insurance Company, and possibly one or two others. The wedding feast was prepared, and the guests were on hand at the appointed hour. The room was partially darkened, and Professor Mott took his place m the cabinet. Owing to 'the unusual i force required to materialise two forms at the same time, Dr. Dolley also took a seat m the cabinet along with the Pro- I feasor. The table was spread, the guests were seated, places were reserved for the bride and groom, plates were laid for them, and an elegant bouquet placed at each place, according to the bride's directions. All was now ready for the apparance of those m whose honour the comp any had assembled and the guests waited the appearance of the bridalparty. But they had not long to wait. The announcement was soon made from the cabinet that the spirits were ready. The guests, one after another, were invited up to the aperture where the lady and her husband were presented both appearing with perfect distinctness and very life-like, receiving the guests pleasantly, and entering freely into conversation with them.. After this, one account says, both spirits walked out of the cabinet, across the room, and took their places prepared for them at the table. The bride wore an elegant heavg satin dress, white as the light, with the conventional flowing marriage veil and orange blossoms. The groom wore the regulation black broadcloth and white vest, with full-blown rose m the button-hole of m the coat — though roses m this vicinity are done blooming. This would seem to prove that m the summer land the roses bloom perpetually After receiving the congratulations of their friends, and narrating the particulars of the marriage — explaining how and where m the spirit world the ceremony had been performed — the bridal party put off the semblance of mortal body and earthly habiliments which they had donned for the occasion, and betook them to their home m the spirit world, or, perchance to their celestial wedding tour." I don't know that I should add anything to the foregoing beyond stating that tens tf thousands believe and cherish it |\ consolatory truth,
