SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

[To the Editor of the Herald] Sir, — The uncalled for and offensive attack made on the local School Committee, m your leading columns yesterday, is only an illustration how a writer can be led to form false opinions when inflenced by personal motives. As the article m question was so long and wearisome, I will not attempt to inflict upon your readers anything like a reply m detail to arguments adduced, but merely state that the Committee kno ; w exactly what they are doing, and that the gentlemen composing that body will no doubt continue to act for the best interests of . education m <this district, even if, unhappily, they should have to tread oii the^orns of one or two obstructionists. Further, the Committee does not attempt, as stated, to assume the powers of the Board j it has not been censured and rebelled ; it has procured a copy of the Act j it never sends indelicate and unfeeling letters ; it does not display ignorance \ it is never insolent m. its character j "it has never obstinately and unfeelingly declined to accede to any reasonable request ; it is "not guilty of the commission of irregularities — for of all these thiugs is it accused m the article m question, which with j the worst of taste, is made an editorial one. I think it would have shown far less malevolence had you published the letter which you state you had received. Before attempting to teach others, you should yourself, sir, study the Education Act, and you would find that the School Committee have higher and more important functions to perform that those alluded to at the close of your article. T am, &0. , j Secretary School Committee. „.
