The subjoined very important telegram has been addressed to Mr. Carlaw Smith, the Honorary Secretary of the Poverty Bay Progress Committee. But we may state at once that what Mr. Sheehan has done has been brought about by the advice and influence of Mr. McDonald, the loc:il candidate. If Mr. McDonald be returned aa our local candidate, we shall get more done for us even before the House meets than any other representative c<ml.\ probably do for us when Parliament assembles. The following ia the telegram : — "Mr. Tolb will prepare a list of Blocks of Land m Poverty Bay, now held as Waste Lands of the Crown, and available for sale and settlement. A copy of that will be sent to you. "John Shebhan." The pnrpose gained by this is that from these blocks the Borough Council will be able to select 2000 acres of land valuable either for sale or lease. Mr. Garlaw Smith .has suggested to tlie Native Minister, and Mr. McD >nald has un<lertukeu to support the app ication, that 2000 acres of the Patutahi Block uhall be given to the Borough. Another thing Mr. McDonald has done — He has asked the Native Minister to at once gazette the sitting of the Native Lands Court for Poverty Bay, and this is likely to be done at once.
