PRESENTATION to MRS. TURNER, MISSES TURNER, AND MR. G. R. TURNER.
_ .*- — ' j Last evening a number of gentlemen assembled in the private drawing-room of Mr. S. M. Wilson, when Mr. C. D: Berry was requested to preside. There were present Messrs. Brassey, Mathewson, Capt. Tucker, S. M. Wilson, J. Browne, F. J. Piesse, and others whose names we have not been furnished with. Mr. Berry then, in a very feeling address, regretted the departure of Mr. Turner, who had so long been manager of the Bank of New Zealand, and who was held in such very general esteem. As. a citizen, as an active member of his Church, as a generous contributor to all charitable institutions, as a man whose purse had always been open to every appeal of distress, as a husband and a father — in all his relations of life, public, domestic, and private, Mr. Turner was an example to us all. Mr. Berry then requested that Mr. Turner would accept of the following: a handsome illuminated address/ drawn with great taste, and illustrated by Mr Featon in a most artistic manner, with the subjoined inscription and signatures following : Gisborne, August 3rd, 1879. George Robert Turner, Esq., Manager Bank of New Zealand. Bear Sir : We, the undersigned residents in the Poverty Bay District, beg to present to you this small testimonial of our esteem, and while we deeply regret your departure from us, we sincerely hope that good fortune may attend you wherever you go. We desire that you will accept on behalf of Mrs. Turner, the accompanying memento, and hope it may serve to remind her of the friends who deeply regret her departure — Wm. F. Crawford, Samuel Mason Wilson, Daniel Page, M. G. Nasmith, W. Brassey, C. D. Berry, Richard Kelly, Malcolm McLeod, Taylor and Batten, Wm. Teat, Thos. Adams, Walter Good, W. 0. Skeet, John Dick, Daniel Gough, F. J. Piesse, James Browne, Henry Pollen, M.D., J. E. T. Rogan, Joshua Cuff, Ed. P. Joyce, Geo. Hughes. Following the address, Mr. Turner was requested to accept a handsome diamond ring and cameo pin for himself, and for Mrs.' Turner an elegant gold bracelet set in diamonds and rubies, a lady's gold chain and locket, the latter beautifully studded with diamonds. To the elder Miss Turner a handsome inlaid work-box of papier macJie, and an elegantly-bound scrap book, profuselyillustrated by Dori. To the younger Miss Turner an inlaid work-box and an illustrated edition of Moore'a poems. The presentations having been made, Mr. Turner replied and appeared so much affected as scarcely to be able to give utterance to the fulness of his feelings. Then champagne followed. Mr. Turner's health was drunk in bumpers with three times three. Afterwards Mr. Turner with some of his friends, were driven to his home in one of Mr. S. M. Wilson's handsome drags, Mr. Wilson himself acting as Jehu. This morning Mr. Turner was followed to the steamer for Auckland by a large number of friends.
