This Day. The Halcione passed a wreck on her way out which proved to be a barque laden with timber. She was water-logged with nearly all her main deck and fittings washed away, and the main mast gone. She appeared to be abandoned some time. On the stern were the letters "FRCS," and under them " STN." Above all was a shield bearing the letters " FP," and the North German flag. It is reported that Mr. Thompson, Surveyor - General, has sent m his resignation. i Mr. Izard addressed the electors of Wellington country districts on Wednesday night. He declared himself strongly an anti-Greyite and received a vote of thanks. Charles O'Neill comes forward on the Liberal ticket to oppose Brandon and Izard for Wellington country districts. The Stella left yesterday afternoon with Sir George Grey for Lyttelton, where he commences his electioneering campaign. The Hon. John Hall has resigned his seat m the Legislative Council. A magnificent bust of the native chief Te Hapuka, of Hawke's Bay, has just been finished, which was ordered by the Government, and will cost £200. A frifle match was fired yesterday between detachments of the Wellington Artillery and the men of H.M.s "Emerald.'' After an exciting contest it Was won by the latter by one point, J387 to |386. The " Emerald" men fired with Martini-Henry riflns and thus I had advantage over the Snider carbines jof the Artillery, particularly at long ranges.
