BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the meeting of the Council last evening there were present : Councillors Townley (in the chair), Adair, Walker, Clayton, Morgan, Smith, and Ward. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

A letter was received from the Rev. E. s Williams, calling attention to tho state of his back yard. Referred to the Borough Engineer. The Engineer's report was read and adopted, aud several small payments were passed. Re Childers-street. — It was resolved that Councillor Walker and Mr. Drummond proceed to-morrow to Mr. Daly's to see what can be done.

Resolved that Mr. Stuckey receive £1 per quarter for cleaning and oiling the engine hose. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the local paper proprietors to teuder for the printing and advertising for the ensuing 12 months. Moved and carried that Councillors Ward, Walker, and Morgan, form a committee to alter and frame bye-laws. Councillor Walker moved " That steps be taken to procure a better class of metal for the streets, than that from the Waimata."

Proposed by Councillor Walker, and seconded by Councillor Townley, " That tenders be called for the supply of 2000 yards of metal from the Kaiti beach, the successful tenderer to have the use ef a punt free. The Engineer to be instructed to make out specifications for the same, and to point out the place from where the gravel is to be procured."
