ELECTION MEETING.

[To the Editor of the Herald.]

Sib, — I was very much astonished after Mr. Woodbine Johnson's meeting on , Friday evening last, to hear a most liberal expression of opinion from Captain Porter, which appeared at first to be addressed to myself as well as others, but after a little consideration I found that Mr. M. Mulloolly was the offending party. From what I understood Captain Porter to say, Mr. Mulloolly had induced him to believe that he would support him in the forthcoming election. Mr. Mulloolly appears to have changed his mind, aud therefore is called a scoundrel and threatened with immediate ruin. Mr. Mulloolly now expresses his determination to vote for Captain Morris, and I am very sorry that Captain Porter should so far have ' forgotten himself as to lose sight of his generally very liberal views. It will, I think, be obvious that a man who aspires to the honor of representing us in the House, ought to have that control over himself which is so indispensable in a politician. If Captain Porter, because a man won't vote for him, loses his temper and indulges in the public street language calculated to cause a breach of the peace, it appears to me that he does that which proves him to be entirely unfit for the position he seeks to fill, arid which considerably derogates from the office of J. P., which I understand he holds. — I am,. &c, A. F. Hardy. [Mr. Hardy must not forget that no man is quicker than himself to lose his temper. —Ed.]
