WELLINGTON.
This Day. A deputation of the Liberal Association waited on Messrs. Greenfield and Levin yesterday, asking whether, if the Association voted for them, they would support Sir George Grey, The candidates replied they would! be thankful for the Association's votes, but could not support Sir George Grey. A meeting of the Association was subsequently held, when four questions were put to the Ballot :—l. Whether they should vote for Levin ; 2. Whether for Henry Anderson ; 3. Whether for Greenfield ; 4. Whether plump for Hutchinson as the only Liberal candidate. The result was in favor of voting for Levin by a large majority. It is intended to start a "Punch" here. , The date of nomination for the City is Ist of September ; polling on the sth. Wellington country districts 3rd of September ; polling on 9th. Hutt, 4th of September ; polling on 11th. Mr. George Hunter, who has been ill for some time, has now recovered and is engaged actively in election business. The ship Halcione arrived from London in 80 days, the fastest passage this season. She brings a large cargo aud a good many passengers.
