NEW PLYMOUTH.
This Day. While the men employed by the Harbor Board were engaged on Friday m stripping the face of the cliff at the works, an immense slip of earth occurred, burying four men. The men were opening a quarry opposite, and the earth being loose the foremen thought it advisable to loosen the top, and sent the men to do it. Whilst so employed the the soil gave away, and the four men below, who were engaged m wheeling the" loose stuff from the spot, were buried. Win. Hawker had his leg smashed above the ankle, Win. Crook's ankle was dislocated, and Patrick* Ryan and Hume were severely crushed by the fall of a mass of earth, but had no bones broken.
