BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The Committee of the Gisborne Benevolent Society met on Wednesday afternoon— Yen. Archdeacon Williams m the chair. 'On the motion of Rev. E., Williams, Rev. J. McAra was appointed Secretary and Treasurer. The Committee then proceeded to allocate districts fot the ladies who have kindly consented to visit and collect funds for relief. The town was divided into seven districts, as follows : — District I. — Gladstone Road North, from Read's Quay to Bright street : Mrs. Bousefield. District II. — Gladstone Road North, from Bright Street to Cobden : Street : Mrs. Butt. District III — Gladstone Road Noith, from Cobden Street to Roebuck Street : Mrs. W. L. Williams. District IV — Gladstone Road North, from Roebuck Street to Read's Gate : Mrs. A. Graham. District V. — Gladstone Road South, front Read's Quay tq Peel Street »: Mrs. Hamlin. District Vl— Gladstone Road South, from Peel Street to Cobden Street : Mrs. East. . District VII — Gladstone Road South from Cobden Street to Read's Gate ; Mrs. Scotter. The Secretary was instructed to write to certain gentlemen m the country districts, and ask their co-operation m the work of the Society. Rev. E. Williams moved, and Rev. W. L. Salter seconded, and carried : " That a Relief Committee be appointed every month, to consist of two ladies and one gentlemen, who may afford immediate relief m urgent cases according to circumstances, and that the assistance of the Sergeant cf- the Police be obtained if necessary to give information as to the merits of any doubtful cases." . The Relief Committee for the ensuing month consists of Mrs. Bousefield, Mrs. Butt, and Rev. Father Chastagnon. It was agreed that the General Committee meet statedly on the second Wednesday of each month, at 3 p.m. After some other routine business^ the Committee separated. ,
