This Day. An enthusiastic meeting was held at the Thamen yesterday to secure the return of Sir George Grey and Mr. Sheehan. Mr. Winder has gone to Sydney to get appliances for raising the s. s. Taupo. Colonel Fraser, R. M. at the Thames, sat for the last time yesterday. He referred to the cause which led to the~ resignation, denying the truth of the charge made against him ; but he felt that until the accusations were refuted, suspicions would attach to him, and he thought it right to retire from a position which could only be useful and honorable while beyond suspicion.
