PETROLEUM.
[To the Editor of the Herald.] ' Sir,—l have noticed with much pleasure the interest now being evinced respecting the Petroleum Springs, and trust it will not be allowed to die out until the Springs are again being worked. :' . As a means towards that object I should suggest that Mr A. Ross, (than whom there is not a more fit person, both from his knowledge of the Springs and the causes which led to the suspension of the works, and also from his ability to treat with any capitalists who may have a bona fide intention of workin? them"), be sent as representative of Poverty Bay to the Sydney Exhibition, that the Borough and County Council each vote a small amount towards his expenses, and that the requisite balance be made up by public subscription. It is a reproach.to us m the present depressed state of the district that such a means of wealth and general advancement of the place should be unworked. I am, &c., J. H. Stubbs.
