ORMOND HIGHWAY BOARD.

[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir, — If the members of a public body, say, for instance, the late Road Board of the Ormond District, by their gross carelessness, and neglect of those duties they promised to look after when elected, cause their district to lose a large sum of money, is there any way of making the members responsible for that loss 1 Last year, the rates collected m this district amounted to £120. Instead of receiving a like sum from the "Government, the late Board only got £32, and they never even wrote to the Government for the balance ; and neither Chairman or Secretary can give any reason whatever why they did not do so. Can you, Mr. Editor, give any explanation for such neglect ] I am, &c, P. Barrie.
