CHRISTCHURCH.
Th's Day. An action for libel has been com'menced against the Lyttelton Times, by Mr. Barker, Land Auent, for remarks made in that paper of 12th July, regarding an action of his in the Supreme Court. There was a narrow escape from a serious fire last night. A gas stove was left alight in the premises of Matson and Co., and the flooring was set on fire by it. Luckily a clerk was at work late, and discovered it in time.
