NAPIER.

This Day. At the R.M. Court yesterday, Oarl Marie Gradman, a Dane, carrying on business at Norse wood, as chemiet, and occasionally giving medical advice, was charged with the manslaughter of a married woman, named Laurvig. It appeared from the evidence that on the 29th Tune, the woman, being in labor her husband fetched Gradman. He was at first, adverse to attend, recommending Laurvig to get an English doctor. This Laurvig said he would do, but persuaded Gradman to attend meanwhile. It proved a double birth, and the first child was brought away in pieces. Laurvig then went to Waipukurau, and fetched Dr. Heed, the journey occupying six hours. Dr. Reed safely delivered the woman of a second child, but she died afterwards from exhaustion. Dr. Reed stated that had a skilful man attended from the first the woman's life would in all probability have -been saved ; but declined to state whether her death was caused by unskilful treatment of Gradman, or whether had she had no one, her death would not have ensued. TheR.M. dismissed the case.
