PARLIAMENTARY.

[By Telegraph.]

[from our special correspondent.]

WELLINGTON.

This Day. IN THE DARK* Parties are evidently unsettled, and there is scarcely any knowing on which side some members will go. And this curiously too at a moment when it would naturally be expected that the Ministry would put on their most winning graces, and try to conciliate waverers. They at present seem sullen and uncommunicative. ..>- '.: .'■[.'... '.• :<•.. ■ ' . .'•;. A good many of their hitherto supporters complain that, the Ministry show no disposition to consult th'e.nv or "take them into their confidence. These Government supporters oomplain that while they know nothing of the intentions oi the Ministry, the OpSosition are making overtures m all irectioiis. . The Ministry have been urged upon the point by -their most influential friends, aud it is expected that there will be a caucus this afternoon or to-morrow morning. • - >r --\-j CHAIRMAN- OF COMMITTEES.., Nothing has been yet_ settled about the Chairmanship of Committees ; but it ibjbecoming I ' evident that Mr. 'Bunny will not be accepted by the House, and it is probable, therefore, that the Government will drop him. Messrs. Bryce and Thomson are mentioned as candidates, and it is by no means improbable that the former will be brought forward for* the post, and Thomson get a- seat m the Cabinet ; but there is rumor that the Opposition have made overtures to Thomson, proposing that he and Seymour should draw for the candidature, the friends of each pledging themselves to support . the buc-. cessful drawer, m which case his election would be certain. Of course, this would amount to a Ministerial defeat. The CJironicle, on Saturday night, had a warm article m favor of Bryce ; and Ballance is understood to be working hard m his, favor. Mr. O'Rorke, accompanied by Sir George Grey and Major Atkinson, waited on the GoVfernor last Saturday,- when he expressed his approval at the choice of ..Speaker by the 80u5e. .'.. . It is understood - that the Premier will make his Financial Statement m about ti fOPtni^ht. It is stated" that the Government will be liercely attaoked on the Native policy m debate, on the Address m Reply to the Governor's speech!
