HAWERA.

This Day

A public meeting was held yesterday, to consider a telegram from the Premier, in which he stated that there was already a sufficient Constabulary force in the district. The meeting decided that the force was not sufficient to protect the frontier, and urged upon the Government to keep a bold front, and to push on' the railway between here and Normanby. There is a strong feeling that Livingstone should stand for Patea at the next election, as . people are not satisfied with Major Atkinson, when in power, not pushing on ''the ■construction of the Railway and Mountain Road. It is thought that Atkinson will not seek re-eleotion, but will stand for Grey . and Bell instead.
