This Day. Brodie and Cooper's case has been adjourned till Monday so as to have a fresh jury- empanelled. Brother C. j. Tot ward has received a Commission from the Prince of Wales, appointinghimDistrict Grand Master m succession to the late Sir Donald McLean. It is stated that the Commissioners to open Parliament on Friday will be Sir William Fitzherbert, Sir P. D. Bell, and Colonel Whitmore. Tbe Governor's speech will not be delivered until Tuesday, as the Speaker of the House has to be elected, and the Governor has to approve of the choice. Morton Quin, late Disfcriet Secretary of the Foresters, has been remanded on a charge of embezzling funds of the order. The Land Tax Revision Court sat yesterdey. More than four-fifths of the objectors did not appear, and a large number of the rest were withdrawn after the Court opened. The appeals were sustained m only a very few instances. Total number set clown was 2200. The Post states on good authority that the Government will propose reimposition.of grain and timber duties. Another batch of Maori prisoners arrived here by the Patea yesterday morning. The break m the cable is believed to be about 380 miles from Port ■Darwin... It is hoped it will be repaired by Sunday. The steamer with telegrams is expected at Sydney on Friday.
