TIMARU.
This Day. The Temuka river broke through between Burrow's and Marshall's paddock, and the whole of the section* m King-street were flooded, much damage resulting to the property m that locality. Messrs. M'Bratney, Storey, and Dunford, were with difficulty rescued with their families, but no lives were lost. All the other houses were filled with water, and the occupants of three cottages could not be got at. A boat was sent from Timaru and promptly rescued the families. Mr. Lee's store had about 6 feet of water m it, and his loss is estimated at .£4OO. The horses m the different stables were with difficulty saved by the pluck of some men swimming to the stables and breaking open the doors. A Maori was washed off his horse and drifted a mile down the stream, but he got to the bank on the south side. Great loss was sustained itt v fences, sheep, 'and cattle, and the roads are impassable. This is the highest flood since 1866.
