While the cutter Sovereign of the Seas was being towed over the Opotiki bar, the rope broke and the cutter was stranded on the bar. The Citizens'" Ball to the Governor last night was a great success. , Four, hundred were present. The Governor opened the Ball with the Mayoress, the Mayor leading out Mrs. St. John.
