BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting was held m the Council Chamber last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (m the Chair),, nnd Councillors Townley, Morgan, Walker, C. Smith, and Clayton. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from William Drysdale, Dunedin, advising the forwarding of a lamp pattern book. Letter from Mr Black, intimating his intention to erect a verandah. Letter from Mr J. A. West, asking that a drain may be cut m Bright street to carry off the surface water. From Mr C. D. Berry, contractor, offering to fill up the lake between Mr Luttrell's stables and Teat's corner at the rate of sixpence a yard. — Offer accepted. Letter from the Under Secretary, m answer to the Council's application for a set of test scales, stating that it was not usual for the Government to supply the articles. From Mr Hams, drawing attention to the state of the landing place upon the opposite side of the Gisborne river. Tile Engineer was empowered to incur the necessary expense by laying down fascines. . A letter from some one whose signature was 'undecipherable, asking for something, which m consequence of the ink being so diluted. Chairman nor Councillors could read it. Letters from a number of ratepayers on and m the vicinity of the Waikauae, asking that a portion of the rate money collected .from the residents of the Block be expended m making the streets fit for traffic.
