Thiß Day. Mr. Stout has not 'yet replied to the request of a deputation that he should not resign, but it is understood he will adhere to his determination to retire from politics. A man named Anderson attempted to jump overboard from the " Arawata " at Otago Heads on Sunday. Yesterday he was charged at Port Chalmers with attempted suicide, and was remanded for medical examination.
