PORT OF POVERTY BAY.
Mr. Harti agent for the Union Steam Ship Company, does not look for the arrival of the Lady Bird at our port tomorrow as advertised, although he cannot speak positively on account of the telegraph wires Being down. The Pretty Jane, ran baok for Bhelter on Saturday morning. After having rode out a very stiff E.N.E. gale under Tuo Moto, she was compelled to slip an anchor and chain. On entering the river she experienced muoh difficulty m steaming against the heavy fresh running out of the river at the time and When approaching the wharf she was caught by an eddy of the current, and although the anchor was immediately let go she went on to the spit between the wharf and the Waikanae. It was perhaps fortunate she did, as on Sunday morning she could not have laid at at the wharf, the fresh having increased so much. A large quautity of silt has now formed round her, so that some difficulty may be experienced m getting her off.
