AUCKLAND.
This Day. The San Francisco mail arrived here yesterday morning. The news is merely details of what was previously received by cable, and is devoid of interest. The greater part consists of descriptions of die severe measures of repression m Russia, consequent on the attempt on the Ozar's life. At the annual licensing meeting, the Chairman remarked upon the large number of houses against whose management convictions had been obtained during the year, and said it was evident that publicans were not taking the same care. as formerly to comply with the provisions of the Licensing Act. Several cases were held over for further consideration. The landlords of several liouses had opened several communications with adjoining apartments, especially when such were eating-houses. This practice was severely commented upon by the Bench, and the publicans were told that such inter-communication would be held as a valid ground for refusing a license. A walking match for £20 a-side will come off at Ellerslie Gardens, Auckland, next Saturday afternoon.
