WELLINGTON.

This Day. The Governor, Premier, and Colonel Whitmore arrived from New Plymouth yesterday. Advices received by the Government yesterday from .New Plymouth are stated to be more assuring. Of tlie reported removal of women and children from the outlying districts to New Plymouth these are stated to have been only m cases where the husbands are accustomed to aosent themselves from home at work all the week. It is stated that most of the outlying settlers disclaim all apprehension of attack. The natives assert that they have no ill-teeling against the Europeans ; but that they are merely endeavoring to force a settlement of the question of title by entry on the land and that their action is to test their titles ; but they utterly repudiate any intention of hustde movements against the Government. It is creditably reported that Te Whiti's followers are almost unarmed and wholly unprepared for war. Nevertheless the Government are determined to have everything m readiness for any emergency. Immediate steps are to be taken to recruit two hundred more men for the Armed Constabularly, to be sent to defend New Plymouth. The iSteila yesterday took forty-five of the Armed Constabularly to New Plymouth. The Mayor is to have an interview with the Premier to-day to urge the necessity of preserving peace m view of obtaining a loan. The ship Pieione, now two months out, brings a large quantity of rifle cartridges and material m connection with heavy ordnance j also, two locomotives are aboard.
