STRANDING OF THE SCHOONER NORVAL AT KAIHOU.
Oar own correspondent at Tolago Bay sends us the following j— The schooner Norval, Capt. Conway, was chartered by Mr H. Trimmer to load posts for Gisborne, She arrived at Kaihou at 3.30 p.m. on Friday, being too late to commence loading she made all snug for the night ; on Saturday morning a heavy swell from the eastward and no wind, consequently it was impossible to get out of the Bay ; at night the sea was too heavy to attempt to load or move her. She rode out the night until Sunday morning at 3.30 a.m., when the anchor chain parted, the captain then let go the port anchor with the only remainang chain on board, she hung on in this manner for about an hour when they were obliged to slip and run the schooner ashore, which was done. At present the schooner appears to be uninjured as she is lying on a hard sandy beach. The captain's wife and two children were on board, but Mr H. Trimmer started to bring them to his hotel until the schooner is read for sea. Will send further particulars next mail. [It will be remembered that this vessel, bound north, put into this port twice last week, through stress of weather, and finally left last Tuesday.]
