Evening Herald Office,

May 24th, 1879. At the sale at Makaraka yesterday, by Messrs. Ferris & Pitt, about 100 head of cattle were yarded. The attendance was large, but the prices still showed a weakening tendency. The following were the prices realised : — Stores — Steers £4 to £6 12s 6d ; cows, £4 17s 6d ; calves, £2 6s ; heifers sold from £6 5s to £7 2s 6d ; prime stores at from £8 10s to £11 ss. The residue of the late Capt. Read's stock were sold, but there were not many yarded, and those of an inferior quality. They sold at— cows, £2 15s to £5 7s 6d ; a few hacks were sold at from £7 to £9
