Referring to Rewi's speech, the WaiTcato Times, which cannot be accused of any leanings to the present Government, says in its issue of Saturday : — "Rewi's speech created a great sensation. It was a complete surrender. Its precise object I cannot yet judge, inasmuch as the time will only just permit of my writing a few lines before tho orderly leaveß. It is probable that Wahanui is thoroughly in accord with Rewi and that Ngatimaniapoto will secede from the King unlesß he comes in with them in their business arrangements with the Government. I think the Kingites will not give way without a struggle, but a great .blow was given to the King's men by the speech."
