AUCKLAND.
This Day. At the sale yesterday of the Waiwera and Ellerslie estates, the property of Robert Graham, was very largely attended. In numerous instances the proprietor refused to sell, considering r,he bids unequal to the value of the lands. A number of paddocks at Ellerslie sold at £40 and £50 per acre. Elleralio H'mse, with 55 acres of surrounding land, was withdrawn at £3,500. The highest offer for the Waiwera estate was £10,000 cash ; but '.his did not reach Graham's figure, £13,000, and he refused to accept the offer. The neAV wharf at Whangarei Heads, completed a few months ago, at a cost of £700 washed away on Monday morning before daylight. A tremendous gale blew on Monday night from seawards and brought m an immense body of water. The wharf is ouilt on a sand beach, the water must have raised the wharf bodily, as the remains, now to be fastened together, are some 300 yards away. Two small houses, 100 yards from the end of the wharf, also disappeared and there is now four fathoms of water where the houses stood. An immense body of sand has been washed away. Sailed — City of Sydney, for Sydney.
